Water Smarter with WaterMyYard.org

August 17, 2026

Did you know that up to 50% of residential water used outdoors is wasted due to overwatering?

Keeping a lush, healthy lawn in Texas doesn't mean you need to run your sprinklers on high gear all summer long. Overwatering not only spikes your monthly utility bill, but it can also weaken grass roots and make your lawn more susceptible to fungal diseases and pests.

To help our community conserve water and save money, Belmont FWSD is encouraging all residents to take the guesswork out of irrigation by signing up for https://watermyyard.org/WaterMyYard.org.

What is WaterMyYard?

https://watermyyard.org/WaterMyYard.org is a free program developed by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. It uses local weather stations, rainfall measurements, and evapotranspiration data to calculate exactly how much supplemental water your lawn needs each week to stay healthy.

Instead of sticking to a rigid automated schedule year-round, you’ll receive tailored, real-time advice based on actual weather conditions in our area. If it rained earlier in the week, https://watermyyard.org/WaterMyYard.org will let you know you can turn off the sprinklers completely!

Why Make the Switch?

  • Save Money: Lower your monthly water bill by only watering when necessary.

  • Healthier Turf: Promoting deeper root growth makes your grass more drought-resistant and resilient against disease.

  • Protect Our Resources: Every gallon saved helps secure Belmont FWSD's long-term water supply and preserves our local infrastructure.

Getting Started in 3 Easy Steps

  1. Visit the Website: Go to https://watermyyard.org/WaterMyYard.org or download the free WaterMyYard mobile app.

  2. Set Up Your Profile: Enter your address and answer a few quick questions about your irrigation system (e.g., spray heads, rotor heads, or drip irrigation).

  3. Get Weekly Recommendations: Choose to receive automated weekly alerts via text message or email telling you exactly how many minutes to run your sprinklers—or if you can skip watering entirely!

Small Changes, Big Impact

If every household in Belmont FWSD reduces outdoor watering by just 10–15 minutes a week, our community can save millions of gallons of water each year.

Join your neighbors in making smart watering a habit.
